Our Approach to Learning
Individualized Learning
The goal of individualized learning or individualized instruction is to find a connection between a student's unique, God-given learning style and the subject being taught, by tailoring content, pace, and instructional technology to each student's interests and abilities.
In an effort to educate the whole child, Community Christian aims to develop a sense of shared values, attitudes, and behaviors that reflect the character of God in each student. Qualities like honesty, respect, integrity, responsibility, fairness, and citizenship help prepare students to live a life guided by ethical and moral principles as outlined in the Word of God. These values will benefit each individual student as well as the community at large.
Character Development
Community Engagement
Our doors are open to members of our community who are experienced in the fields of arts, science, technology, and humanities. We desire to expose our students to real world experiences, guided by real world professionals. Community helpers may present challenges, help assess student engagement activities, or contribute to the development of our students community expressions projects/presentations.
Community Expressions Collaborative
Community Expressions involves all students and provides opportunities for them to collaborate with one another and engage in their local communities.
This year, our students have learned to make pretzels at Smales Pretzel Bakery, participated in a Turkey Egg Drop Challenge science project, and learned about farming and agriculture at Aullwood Audubon.
Community Christian has also partnered with Make Way Ministries, With God’s Grace Mobile Food Pantry, Dayton Right to Life, and local senior living facilities in order to gain practical missions experience.
Spiritual Emphasis
At Community Christian, we aim to teach our students about God’s interaction with His creation throughout history and encourage them to apply the principles of Scripture to all of life’s circumstances. Rather than modify student behavior, we seek to see student’s hearts transformed by the Holy Spirit and their worldview shaped by the truth of God’s Word. Students and staff begin each day together with JUMPSTART!, a time of corporate worship, Bible study, and prayer. We believe that starting our day in the presence of the Lord helps us focus our minds and hearts. This motivates us to accomplish our daily goals– for His glory!
